I was charged, but my account was never made, I can't request a refund since I can't login.

I have just experienced the same issue. My credit card has been charged, but the account has not been created.

What’s more, the email provided in the receipt email from Stripe fails to deliver with “Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; connect to nomads.com[104.18.23.30]:25: Connection
timed out”

Requiring payment for account sign-up is broken UX because of situations just like this.
